Matt Grimmitt - 'Forgotten Functionality

Wednesday 30th July to Tuesday 9th September

Matt makes functional Slipware Pottery using red earthenware clay, decorated with coloured slips and lovely rich glazes in the traditional manner from a small studio at his home in Evesham. His pottery takes a large amount of influence from the (now almost) forgotten country potteries of Great Britain. Matt is the great, great Grandson of Elijah Comfort who worked alongside Michael Cardew at Winchcombe Pottery. Both were great Potters who had a formative influence on 20th Century pottery. Matt's pots are made with the same ethos as theirs - affordable pots for daily life showing much warmth with minimal fuss. This is Matt's first exhibition and he is very happy that it is here at Number 8 in the locality that provides much of the inspiration for his work.
