This visually stunning film, the first installment in a planned trilogy based on the life of Genghis Khan, looks at Khan's youth and his violent rise to power. Based on leading scholarly accounts, Mongol delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of Genghis Khan, a man who was born a slave called Termudgin in 1162. The film follows his perilous childhood through to the battle that sealed his destiny, painting a portrait of a multidimensional man who was inspiring, fearless and visionary. Filmed in the lands that gave birth to Genghis Khan, Mongol transports us back to an exotic world of nomads set within an endless landscape and the ever present sense of danger.
